Suspended Gestures

Rather than creating works that house shapes and gestures, what if my works could become their own shaped gestures on a wall or in space?

"Suspended Gestures" is a series that deconstructs traditional painting surfaces and techniques, in order to investigate this question of releasing one's movement from the rectangular frame.  Paper, cords, fabric, and mats were marked, cut, and reoriented throughout my process of making.  My hope is to uplift the unified, yet dynamic whole that was found throughout these disparate parts.
